Triumphs of the 41st Athletics Meet

The 41st Athletics Meet of our school was successfully held on 3rd October 2024 and 28th March, 2025. The year’s Athletics Meet saw an unexpected turn of events – the second day of the Meet, which was originally scheduled to be held on 14th November, 2024, had to be cancelled due to a rare November typhoon. With the grace of God and the arrangements made by Tsing Yi Sportsground, the school was grateful to have the opportunity for the make-up day for the second day of the events despite the full occupancy of the venue. While we missed our F.6 students, who were already on Study Leave, dedication and house spirits were demonstrated by our F.1 to F.5 students in all the events on the second day.

On the morning of the first day (3rd October), Mr. Cheng, the Principal, declared the opening of the 41st Athletic Meet, following the opening ceremony where students sang hymns and read Bible scriptures that reminded all student athletics of sportsmanship and perseverance. Then, the cheering teams from the four Houses performed their cheering dances to kick-start all the events.

In the two-day Athletics Meet, a total of 50 track events and 28 field events were successfully conducted. Despite the scorching summer heat, it was encouraging to see athletes tried their best. Hard work paid off in the end - new school records were created by Class 4E who broke the school record for the 4x100 class relay. The school also celebrates the pleasing results achieved by 4E Lee Yan Yiu (Blue House), 4A Leung Yan Yan (Yellow House) and 2D Ng Clarisse (Green House) for attaining the Best Overall Results for Girls Grade A, B, & C respectively, as well as 4D Chan Wai Sen Rayson (Red House), 4E Lau Hin Hang Aidan (Blue House) and 1B Mak Long Kiu (Yellow House) who achieved the Best Overall Results for Boys Grade A, B, & C respectively. Felicitations were also extended to Green House for winning the Overall Champion as well as all other awardees for the wonderful achievements.

In the closing ceremony, we were honoured to have invited Ms. Wong Ka Yan, Angel, a professional athlete and coach for rock climbing, as the Guest of Honour. In addition to her athletic training, Ms. Wong has been an active contestant in the annual Cheung Chau Bun Festival, in which she has been crowned Champion in the female group six times. Sharing her own experiences in her rock climbing training, Ms. Wong reminded students that encountering obstacles and falling down is not only common in rock climbing and sports training, but also throughout the course of our lives. She encouraged students to nurture their persistence and grit through participating in sports competitions, which is helpful to cultivating resilience to cope with different situations in our lives. Following Ms. Wong’s speech, she was invited to present prizes to the awardees alongside the Principal, House Advisors and teachers. Everyone was heartened by the joyous atmosphere when athletes received prizes on behalf of their own houses.
