On 22nd August, our sister school, Hangzhou Xuejun High School, visited Hong Kong, enjoying a remarkable day with us on campus followed by an engaging outdoor activity on Lamma Island.
Our buddies arrived at Lam Woo early in the morning, where our principal, Mr. Cheng, welcomed them with a heartfelt speech. Following this, we engaged in an exhilarating flight simulation workshop. With the guidance of the coach and our STEAM team members, both Lamwooers and our buddies learned the principles of aviation and enjoyed hands-on experience controlling a flight simulator. For many, this was their first encounter with such an exciting and educational activity.
A highlight of the day was our visit to Aberdeen, where we took a scenic boat ride along the harbour. The views were breathtaking, featuring one of the city's most iconic landmarks, Jumbo Kingdom. We also explored a traditional Chinese junk houseboat, gaining an insight into the rich history of fishing culture and the lives of families from the past century. This experience felt like a journey back in time to the heart of a once-thriving fishing village.
At noon, we boarded the Kaito ferry to Sok Kwu Wan, where we enjoyed a delicious fresh Cantonese seafood cuisine. After our meal, we visited the Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village, where we deepened our understanding of Hong Kong's fishing history and glimpsed the traditional daily lives of fisherfolk, including their dragon boats, rafts, and unique dwellings.
The day, enriched with STEAM elements and the multicultural atmosphere of Lamma Island, provided both our buddies and Lamwooers with valuable insights into the past and broadened our perspectives on the future. This shared experience not only fostered friendships but also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and collaboration in education.
