The STEM Team and ECS organized a FlightSim Experience for the Elderly on 21 March 2024. Through this event, our students had the opportunity to communicate with and serve the elderly in the community.
4. FlightSim Experience for Students
The STEM Team organized a FlightSim Experience for students in early May 2024. Guided by our student STEM leaders, students from various forms actively participated in the event and gained experience controlling flight simulators in the STEM room.
A.I. / Innovation and Technology
1. Talk on Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) (for all F.4 students)
We invited Mr. Derek Ng, Vice President of the E-Commerce Association of Hong Kong, to share the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) in various industries during the F.4 form assembly on 23 May 2024. Through Mr. Ng's presentation, our students learned about the use of A.I. in generating videos and AI-controlled robots.
2. F.5 General Education: Visit to Hong Kong Science Park
Ten F.5 students visited the Hong Kong Science Park on 22 May 2024 during General Education (GE) lessons. They learned about recent remarkable innovations such as non-invasive circulating DNA testing, 3D holographic imaging technology, and AI Chinese Chess Robots. They also experienced different technologies including virtual reality and AI.
3. F.5 General Education: I&T Lessons and Students' Project Presentation
Ten F.5 students were selected to join our GE innovation & technology lessons conducted by a group of CUHK students and our STEM teacher, Mr. So. After learning about machine learning, biotechnology, and Arduino sensors, the students were divided into three groups to conduct different projects. These included using big data techniques to investigate the health of Lam Woo students and employing machine learning tools to predict the Hang Seng Index.
4. Accenture Experience Day
Six F.4 students were invited to visit the Accenture office on 12 July 2024 as prize winners in the JA Code for Impact Challenge. They experienced the role of consultants by providing innovative suggestions for businesses.
5. HKBU Fact Check Information Literacy Exhibition and Interactive Workshop
The CL/ICT Department and MCES arranged a visit to the HKBU Fact Check Information Literacy Exhibition and Interactive Workshop. Twenty-one F.4 students participated in the activity and learned how to perform fact-checking using various online AI tools.
Robotics
1. Alumnus Talk on Mechanical Engineering and Robotics (for all F.2 students)
The STEM Team invited our alumnus, Mr. Ivan Leung, on 21 May 2024 to share his experience in mechanical engineering and participation in various robotics competitions. He also shared his working experience in Spain.
2. F.1 STEM Fun Day on Robotics
The STEM Team, CL/ICT Department and IS Department organized a STEM Fun Day on Robotics for all F.1 students on 10 July 2024. All F.1 students had the opportunity to build and code robots to complete various missions. Through a mini-competition, students learned about the mathematics, science, engineering, and technology behind robotics in an engaging way.

3. F.2 STEM Fun Day on Hovercraft
The STEM Team, CL/ICT Department and IS Department organized a STEM Fun Day on Hovercraft for all F.2 students on 11 July 2024. All F.2 students designed and crafted their own hovercraft using their knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Through micro:bit programming, they were able to control their own hovercraft and compete with each other.
4. Universal Robotics Challenge 2024
Our students helped organize the Universal Robotics Challenge 2024 Hong Kong on 7 July 2024, which was organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong and Winstars Enterprise HK Limited.
STEM for the Community
1. "Little Safflower" Community by STEM Scholars Award
Three groups of Lam Woo students participated in the "Little Safflower" Community by STEM Scholars Award, organized by the Changing Young Lives Foundation, Tencent Foundation, and the Education University of Hong Kong. The theme was Gerontech – using innovation and technology to improve the lives of the elderly. Our students created different prototypes such as smart toothbrushes and intelligent pillboxes, sponsored by the programme.
