We were very glad to have Miss Yijie Ding (丁怡杰小姐), a violinist who was graduated from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (with full scholarship) under the support by Ebenezer Music Academy, to coach our string ensemble and present a wonderful lunchtime mini-concert on 15 December 2023. The performance also marked an official opening of the school’s Mini Cultural Square outside the canteen by two warm speeches by our school supervisor Dr. Alice Yuk and our principal, Mr. Cheng Hong Yung.
Born in the early 2000s, Miss Ding started playing the violin at the age of six and conquered the difficulty of being blind since she was born. After a decade of studies in China, Miss Ding was admitted as the first and only blind violin student to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2018. In 2021, she was the winner of VSA International Young Soloist Competition and was named Best Performance at the 19th Gold Concert organised by the Japan Barrier-free Association, and in 2021, she was awarded the Special Jury Prize and the Second Prize (Young Artist Section) at the HKGNA International Music Competition. She has also performed internationally in Hong Kong, China, Japan, Austria and Germany.
Miss Ding played Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5 with our string ensemble, and ended the performance with an unaccompanied solo of Elgar’s Salut d'Amour as an encore.
