A Joyous Success in the Heat
With the grace of God, the 40th Athletics Meet of SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School was successfully held on 21st and 28th September, 2023.
On the morning of 21st September, the school Principal, Mr. Cheng Hong Yung, declared the opening of the 40th Athletic Meet, following the opening ceremony where students sang hymns and read Bible scriptures that reminded all student athletics of sportsmanship and perseverance. Then, the cheering teams from the four Houses performed their cheering dances to kick-start all the events.
In the two-day Athletic Meet, a total of 50 track events and 28 field events were successfully conducted. Despite the scorching summer heat, it was encouraging to see athletes tried their best. Hard work paid off in the end - new school records were created by Class 6D who broke the school record for the 4x100 class relay and 3B Yu Nok Him (Blue House) who broke the school record for Boys B Discus. The school also celebrates the pleasing results achieved by 5D Cheung Ching Yau Yolanda (Red House), 3A Lee Yan Sin (Green House) and 2B Kwok Wing Ying (Green House) for attaining the Best Overall Results for Girls Grade A, B, & C respectively, as well as 6A Lui Wai Fung (Blue House) & 6D Tong Siu Yin (Green House), 3A Chung Tin Yui (Yellow House) and 2B Li Ysz Ho (Blue House) who achieved the Best Overall Results for Boys Grade A, B, & C respectively. Felicitations were also extended to Blue House for winning the Overall Champion as well as all other awardees for the wonderful achievements.
In the closing ceremony, the school was honoured to have invited Ms. Lau Ching Man Mandy, a current rowing coach and a past professional rowing athlete for the Hong Kong Team, as the Guest of Honour. Ms. Lau had accomplished a lot and secured medals at various international competitions for the team in her career as a professional athlete. She was the Gold medalist at the International Regatta 2018, the Champion at All Japan Rowing Chamionships 2009 and the Silver medalist at the Asia Games 2009. Sharing her own experiences in her rowing training, Ms. Lau encouraged students to nurture their persistence and determination when participating in sports competitions. Following Ms. Lau’s speech, she was invited to present prizes to the awardees alongside the Principal, House Advisors and teachers. Everyone was heartened by the joyous atmosphere when athletes received prizes on behalf of their own houses.
The school would like to express our gratitude to all organizing parties including the staff at Tsing Yi Sportsground, teachers, students and alumni who spared time to volunteer at various teams for making the 40th Athletic Meet successful.
